Every safari holds a singular magic when day surrenders to night. It's in these twilight moments that Africa reveals a different face – familiar creatures transformed by darkness into bold silhouettes and fleeting shadows. This transition inspired Senzo Duma's latest collection.
With masterful use of black backgrounds and striking gold and blue hues, Senzo captures these transformative moments. Each piece features leopards prowling through indigenous foliage, their forms emerging from the darkness with the same commanding presence they hold in nature. The blue lotus flowers offer subtle contrast, like moonlight catching water in a nighttime waterhole.
Born in the village of Lidgetton, South Africa, Senzo Duma's life was molded by his surroundings, just as he molds the clay he works with. Despite a promising future in sports, it was his primary school teacher who recognized Senzo's true calling – the world of art. Senzo honed his craft first at Dargle Valley Pottery and later at Ardmore Ceramics. In 2018, he embarked on a new chapter, opening his own pottery studio and breathing life into his dreams. His work is a stunning mirror of nature, capturing the colors, shapes, and even the mood of his environment. He works with a variety of color palettes, sometimes adding a touch of metallic glimmer to his pieces.
