
The Pumpkin Patch
Every autumn the studios in KwaZulu-Natal send us pumpkins. They are earthenware, thrown and sculpted by hand and painted one at a time, which is why no two of them carry the same stripes.
They come as sculptures, as lidded tureens you can actually serve from, and as small boxes. They live on a table from October through Thanksgiving and then go back in the cupboard with the silver, which is the point of owning them.
