Jabu Nene joined Ardmore in 1991 when she was 15 years old and her creative spirit was guided by the renowned Punch Shabalala. Her palette features soft pinks and rich browns and she often scratches intensely into her paint with a sharp wire to create a sgraffito effect. Jabu’s striking artworks have represented Ardmore at exhibitions all over the world, receiving high acclaim and awards. At the Korean Biennale, she was awarded a certificate of merit. The Basel Cultural Museum purchased two of her beautifully decorated riders, and her magnificently painted elephant vase was chosen to represent South African design at Art Basel in Miami in 2014. Most recently, Jabu has worked on designs for Hermès scarves, and one of the new wallpaper designs by Cole & Son is named Jabu in honor of her work.
