The zebra’s distinctive stripes help confuse predators by motion dazzle making it more difficult to pick out an individual target. Although they might all look the same to human eyes, each zebra’s stripes are different and they recognize each other by their distinctive markings. There are three types of zebra. The Grevy’s Zebra is the biggest species with dark brown and white coloring rather than black. The Mountain Zebra is recognized by its white underbelly. The Plains Zebra is the smallest and has the widest distribution in Africa. It is a highly social species forming harems with a single stallion, several mares, and their offspring. The Ardmore artists have dazzled us with their dexterity in painting harems of zebras.
