Zulu flower vase from Zimele Ceramics, South Africa. These colorful flower vases are the artists’ playful take on the traditional clay pot beverage shape which has been used in Zulu culture for hundreds of years.
These vessels are normally monochromatic and quite pedestrian; however, they are given new meaning and purpose with the infusion of brilliant colors and playful Zulu patterns. Additionally, the artists have whimsically adorned each vase with animal words such as “cheetah” or “monkey” and then the corresponding word in their native language inviting us to learn and participate in their fabulous art and colorful heritage. Most of these flower vases are between 9 and 10 inches tall and make for a fantastic gift idea.
