Delight in the whimsical charm of the Chameleon Egg Cup, a masterpiece from Ardmore Ceramics. Hand-sculpted by Nkwenke Scholar and adorned with vibrant hues by Thandeka Shabalala, this piece stands 2 inches high and measures 4 inches in both length and width. Reflecting African culture, the chameleon symbolizes adaptability and resilience, traits highly valued in the continent's folklore. Each Ardmore ceramic piece is a collaborative process. Some pieces begin with the thrower creating the shape on the wheel. Then the sculptor hand-forms the figurative elements in clay. Realistic animals and foliage take shape in skillful hands, before the finished piece is fired in the kiln and allowed to cool. The piece is then given to the painter who skillfully paints it. Upon completion, the piece is fired in the kiln again. The next step is the glazing. Once glazed, the piece is fired a final time and ready for sale.
