Description
This majestic pair of lamps is one-of-a-kind, hand-sculpted and hand-painted in South Africa by sculptor Phomotso Mafura and painter Junoth Ncube, under the renowned Senzo Duma Ceramics studio. Each elephant breaks through a sculpted tree trunk, a striking visual rooted in the animal’s real behavior — elephants are known to push over trees to access bark and roots, shaping entire ecosystems in the process. Delicate white orchid blossoms are individually sculpted and applied by hand, climbing up the base in gentle clusters. Atop each elephant’s back, tiny oxpeckers perch among the orchids, referencing the bird’s role in grooming large mammals and alerting them to danger — a symbol of harmony in African wildlife. These sculptures celebrate the elephant’s cultural symbolism of wisdom, strength, and ancestral memory in South Africa, brought to life with extraordinary craftsmanship. Measuring about 22 inches tall and 12 inches wide, these lamps bring grandeur and ecological storytelling to any space.
