This month we are highlighting Punch Shabalala who is renowned for her intricate painting style which portrays flowers, insects, birds, and animals in an exotic tapestry of color.
Punch’s inspiration is drawn from African beadwork and basket designs blended with European influences, such as Paisley patterns from Scotland and Iznik designs from Turkey. She was born in 1969 and grew up on the Ardmore farm, absorbing the creativity of Fée and Bonnie in the pioneering years. She joined the studio at the age of 20 and is now regarded as the leading Ardmore painter. Punch has overcome great adversity in her life and has survived HIV/AIDS to become Ardmore’s most respected and beloved artist, generously sharing her energy and expertise with others.
