This Year’s Masterpieces
Crocodile vase
This striking vase from Wiseman Ceramics celebrates strength, symbolism, and South African artistry. Two sculpted crocodiles coil around the vessel, their muscular forms emerging through reeds and lotus blossoms, each scale and curve brought to life with expert hand-painting. In African tradition, the crocodile is both feared and revered a guardian of rivers and a symbol of endurance and ancestral power. Artist Wiseman Ndlovu channels this meaning into a piece that feels both timeless and contemporary. With handles formed by curled crocodile tails and a pedestal base textured like reptilian skin, the vase transcends function to become a bold sculptural statement and a true collector’s piece.
Flamingo urn
Hand-sculpted and painted in South Africa, this one-of-a-kind Flamingo Urn celebrates wetland beauty and ceramic artistry. Created by Sbusiso Ndaba and painted by Elvis Mkhize for Love Art Ceramic, the piece is enveloped in lilies, lily pads, and flamingos captured in graceful, lifelike poses. Delicate sculpting brings movement to each bird, while the lid features a flamingo drinking from the water, adding a quiet narrative moment. Standing approximately 38 inches tall and 14 inches wide, the urn commands attention from every angle and serves as a sculptural tribute to Africa’s vibrant aquatic landscapes.
Pair of big 5 urns
Designed by Wiseman Ndlovu in South Africa in 2024, this pair of Big 5 urns celebrates Africa’s iconic wildlife through masterful ceramic storytelling. Sculpted by George and Thabo, each urn features dynamic depictions of the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo, bringing the energy of the savanna to life. Wiseman’s hand-painted surface layers rich coral, blue, and green foliage with deeply textured animal forms, while sculpted buffalo figures crown the lids as symbols of strength and resilience. Monumental in presence, these urns unite traditional craftsmanship with bold contemporary design, honoring Africa’s wildlife and cultural heritage.
Flamingo bowl
This sculptural masterpiece features a flamingo in full elegance, its wings wrapped around a lush, oval-shaped basin overflowing with lilies, lily pads, and a darting fish’s tail. Each flower is sculpted and applied individually, then delicately painted by hand. The vivid colors and layered storytelling are signature to Wiseman Ndlovu’s style—blending symbolism, whimsy, and ecological reverence. Sculpted by Tebogo and painted by Wiseman himself, this one-of-a-kind piece was hand-sculpted and hand-painted in South Africa at Wiseman Ceramics. Measuring about 20 inches high, 28 inches long, and 26 inches wide, it’s a commanding centerpiece. In South African wetlands, flamingos represent rare beauty and delicate balance; here, they are immortalized in art with joy and reverence.
